The culture of Le Marche, and particularly of Macerata, is strongly related to the authentic farmers’ traditions. There, you will be able to visit the cellars where DOC (Appellation of Controlled Origin or Denominazione di Origine Controllata) and IGT (Typical Geographic Indication or Indicazione Geografica Tipica) wines are made, the oil mills and take long walks through the several vineyards and olive groves of Le Marche, while tasting the culinary delights of the region (e.g. cheese, salami).

Wide is the range of sports you can practice in Le Marche. The hills and the mountains surrounding the country offer many possibilities to do walking or guided tours. During the winter season it is easy to get to the ski area located in Ussita, Sarnano, Bolognola, etc. Besides, for those who love the nature, Le Marche offer an incredible array of lovely destinations for visitors, including the National Park of Monti Sibillini, the Natural Reserve of Fiastra Abbey, the Natural Reserve of the Mountain of Torricchio, 6 forests owned by the government, 39 flowers’ areas, and 6 areas dedicated to animals’ protection (Monte Fietone, lakes of Porto Potenza Picena, lake of Polverina, San Vito Arcofiato, Lake of Le Grazie and Lake of Castreccioni).

It is well known that Le Marche is indeed a region full of wonderful handmade shoes, leather products, antique manufactures and artisan labs, especially within the territory of Macerata and Fermo. Many are indeed the factory outlets, where you will find a variety of the most famous Italian designer products (e.g. Tod’s, Hogan, Prada, Paciotti, Lori Blu, Nero Giardini, Fornarina, il Gergo, Naturino, etc.) at discount prices, the antiques’ and handicrafts’ markets. You will be able to shop directly from the historical wine cellars where you can visit the most important native vineyards of Le Marche: e.g. Verdicchio di Matelica and dei Castelli di Jesi, Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, Rosso Piceno, Rosso Conero and  Vernaccia di Serrapetrona

While you stay in Le Marche, if you want touring around, you will find many possibilities to discover the best of the region. Museums and art galleries (e.g. The Palazzo Ducale at Urbino, the Museum of Risorgimento in Macerata, the Paper Museum in Fabriano), historical and ancient cites and religious shrines (e.g. Loreto where there is the Museum of the Holy House), and the charming and beautiful medieval villages. Several are also the events organized in Le Marche to promote music, arts and the discovering of the typical eating products of the Region (the so called Sagre). The Open Air opera at the Sferisterio (July-August) in Macerata is surely the event you won’t miss if you are passionate about opera or even if you are just enjoying your holiday in Le Marche. Musicultura (June), San Severino Blues (July), Musicamondo Jazz & Blues (June-July) are some of other music events dedicated to jazz music while Montelago celtic festival (August) is one of the many initiatives taken to maintain and renovate medieval traditions. Further, Teatro Antico di Urbisaglia (July-August) offers classical theatre productions staged in two of the Marche's finest Roman amphitheatres; Amandola International Theatre Festival (end of August-early September); Civitanova Danza as an international dance festival (November-April and July-August) and finally some fun & games events organized every two years: Biennale Tuttoungioco (July-August) at Civitanova Marche and Biennale Internazionale dell’Umorismo nell’Arte (July-October) at Tolentino, Biennale Herbaria (May) at Macerata (nearby Fiastra Abbey).
